Kodak Disposable Cameras | They Still Exist!

I clearly remember this horrifying moment at the Mary Boone gallery in NYC when the gallery attendant pointed at my Kodak disposable camera and asked "What's that?" From that moment on I decided I'd never let film out of my life. So here are a few from a roll I recently had developed. Enjoy!

Zoe Ghertner

Working at Laird+Partners has given me a chance to delve into the world's of fashion photographers, installation artists, and the realms of luxury goods in a way I never would have as a freelancer. I've come across some incredible artists and recently discovered Zoe Ghertner - a fashion photographer based out of California. Learn more about Zoe in this interview by Elizabeth Pollard of Corinne.

These are some of my favorites from my research. Enjoy!

20-Min Weekend DIY

I'll attempt to make just about anything before buying in-store and since I needed a new teeny tiny wallet for when I'm out and mobile, I decided to try this DIY I pinned recently. I simplified the pattern and process to make this super easy. Try a bunch of materials and go forth with your teeny tiny wallet/pouch/card case/etc.

Download the pattern and instructions at the end of this post - cheers!

FAUVE ≠ JEUNESSE TALKING BLUES

French hip-hop? Seems to be a love/hate thing. I dig it most of the time but when it comes to understanding the French language, I'm almost wholly lost. I pick up "blue" in this song, but relate more with the visual dialog created in this music video. Hope you enjoy. Happy Saturday

Brooklyn Flea Find | Lynd Ward Wood Engravings

I spent a few hours at the Brooklyn Flea today and found these incredible engravings by artist and "wordless novelist" Lynd Ward. I love the moody atmosphere and dark quality of these pieces and plan to display the three landscape illustrations together - triptych style. The woman, I chose her because of the promiscuous pose and her slightly sinister expression. Totally enamored! Hope you enjoy and check out the flea - always a good time. Have a great week!

What you see is not all you get

I wanted to update my website to reflect recent inspirations and thoughts and being always curious and intrigued by the process, I dedicated a snowy day to painting, photographing each stage of the painting and then animating the images into what you see here. Hope you enjoy

Design Matters: Liz Danzico - a note to her younger self

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts in transit, Design Matters, and heard from Liz Danzico of bobulate.com about her journey into design, what she values and what she might have told her younger self about love. Below is an excerpt from her 9/14 post Stillness in motion that really resonated with me:

If I met me, but many years before, we’d talk about love and time. Love will not be polite. It does not wait for opportune moments to approach you. It knows not your life plans or schedule or current or future intentions. It will not wait for you to be ready. There is, in this way, no time for it. If you wait for it, then, it will not come. As love — for a person, a profession, a practice, a city — comes to you. It crosses your path and is only yours to accept. It is up to you to open your hands and heart.
— Liz Danzico

Have a great week

Rodin: More than just "the kiss"

I recently visited the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia and discovered a new love for sculpture. I found beauty in Rodin's ability to translate the grace and rawness of humanity into a solid form. He often modeled with a milky softness but sometimes used a rough touch, conveying extreme emotions and capturing intimate moments. These were some of my favorites from the collection, enjoy.

JAN 2015 Inspirations

I've been working a lot lately at Laird + Partners and haven't had much time to update on what's been going on, but I can say that I've been very inspired and am really excited about how 2015 is starting off.

I took a quick trip to Philadelphia with John Haro to visit the new Barnes Foundation and was overwhelmed by the incredible work of master artists like Cezanne, Picasso, Degas, and Courbet - the vastness of the Barnes collection and its new home is not to be missed. Since the trip, I've been on a fine art/painterly kick so these are just a few of the inspirations I've found this month - enjoy and happy new year!

WIP: Handcrafted by JES

I've just started working on a new project for Janet Stevens, a maker and crafter in rural Massachusetts. She produces handmade textiles and paper products that she sells at local flea markets and plans to sell on Etsy soon. I'm really excited about creating a logo and brand identity that will help propel her small business :)

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress!

WIP: Weeplay Kids Corporate Website

I was recently hired to develop a new website for the global brand engineering agency Weeplay Kids. Their current site was somewhat difficult to navigate and wasn't representing the youthful energy of the Weeplay brand, so I developed a clean site via Squarespace that drew design and color inspiration from the Weeplay logo and their retro roots. What I developed is a functional and fun representation of the Weeplay brand that now stands up to its competitors and will give future partners a better understanding of Weeplay and what they have to offer.

Stay tuned for the launch!

Want It Wednesday: Free "Thanksgiving" Mobile & Desktop Wallpapers

When you think of Thanksgiving you may recall the day in history when John Winthrop and his colonial volunteers murdered more than 700 men, women and children of the Pequot Indians and then enslaved the survivors, forcing them to teach the colonials how to grow crops to feed themselves...or, maybe not. Mainstream America hasn't embraced these truths and has instead opted for a more lighthearted day of giving thanks, plentiful feasts, football and discount shopping.

While I enjoy Thanksgiving so much for the time I get with my family and friends, I think it's important to remember where we came from and give thanks to those who helped us get to where we are today. So, thank you to the Indians who bestowed their knowledge and helped us survive. Without your wisdom and sacrifice we possibly wouldn't be here. Then again, maybe the corn industry wouldn't be monopolizing our resources...but that's a discussion for another time. Happy Give Thanks to the Indians Day, Happy Thanksgiving - enjoy your turkey and these wallpapers.

Top 3 Music Videos for Kiesza's "Hideaway"

I'm a sucker for danceable music and have had Hideaway on repeat for awhile now. I can't help but move when I hear this song and I'm equally compelled when watching the incredible 1-take video they created in Brooklyn.

If you thought the original video was awesome, you'll love this selection - get ready for chickens, raw talent, and men in crop tops.

Have an EXCELLENT holiday week!
